This enduring material is designed to discuss the importance of performing IMT examinations, how to perform IMT measurements and how to apply the information obtained for effective management of patients who are at risk for cardiovascular disease.
This enduring material is designed for the sonographers, physicians, or other medical professional performing carotid duplex/color ultrasound examinations. Physician participants may include (but is not limited to) : radiology, vascular surgery, general surgery, primary care, and cardiologists.
Upon completion of this enduring material activity, you should be able to accomplish the following:
1. Select appropriate patients for Intima-Media Thickness measurements.
2. Measure the Intima-Media Thickness in individual patients accurately and reproducibly.
3. Apply the Intima-Media Thickness measurement to planning appropriate management of cardiovascular risk factors.
4. Increase knowledge to begin integrating the skills learned into clinical practice.
